Newborn 14 weeks

The phenomenon of podcasting allows content producers and their listeners/viewers to have a relationship. This still astounds me. A relationship that thrives must be built on trust while able to adapt to each parties life changes.

On an early March evening my wife, Jana, told me she was pregnant. Jana is an incredibly creative. She choose a method to tell me the news that I now am able to share with my listeners. We are excited about having our first child due in mid-November. This new adventure is the ultimate challenge to me as an artist. Being able to participate in the birth of this child.

I have explained to others how I perceive being a father as a form of art. The response has caused a curious reaction from others. I have been met with furrowing eyebrows and smiles that convey they do not understand. You can almost hear the question from their posture and expression. “What does Art have to do with being a parent?” My response is short and concise. Everything!

When Your Hut’s On Fire

When your hut’s on fire

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.  He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him.  Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.  Exhausted,
he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect
him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after
scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames,
with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and
everything was lost.  He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger.  He cried out, ‘God! How could you do this to me?’  Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island.  It had come to rescue him.  ’How did you know I was here?’ asked the weary man of his rescuers.  ‘We saw your smoke signal,’ they replied.

The Moral of This Story:

It’s
easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn’t
lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of
our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut
seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that
summons the Grace of God.

YouTube in MP4 via QuickTime Plugin!

Today I saw this link on Daring Fireball that presents a bookmarklet to add a link to the YouTube page to download a (higher quality) MP4 version of the video you’re viewing. This is great, but I dislike flash in general, so I’d rather not even watch the embedded version to begin with. I’ve crafted the following bookmarklet to replace the existing flash player with an embedded QuickTime player for the MP4 file.

To install the bookmarklet, simply drag it to your Bookmarks Bar (in Firefox, Safari):

Get the bookmarklet directly.

This is an amazing tool and a large shout out goes to www.joeyhagedorn.com
